Denton Art Classes

4 Week Class Starting September 5th

This class will run every Monday evening for 4 weeks, for beginners and those who have some experience of drawing and painting.  The course will introduce you to the basics of acrylic painting, making use of sketching, investigations in colour and a range of techniques to develop your own methods of creative expression.

Class Size: 4 people maximum.  The class will be small and offer one to one advice and support for you to develop your practice as an individual.  Each week we will take a single object or subject and focus on using different ways to produce a creative response.  Below are some images of the art class currently running at Inspire in Levenshulme every Friday.

Cost: £70, including materials (paint, paper, pencils and any other materials required.  There will be an additional cost for canvas, if you choose to produce work on canvas during the course).  Payment can be made by Bank transfer or cash by August 26th.

How to sign up: If you would like to join the class, please email me at hello@emilypitts.com.  You will be sent a confirmation email with joining instructions and details of payment.

Previous Art Classes:

Beginner’s Art Class – a 4-week class for beginners in acrylic painting.  Following a successful first group are nearing the end of their sessions, I will be running another class on a Tuesday evening.

Course Outline

The aim of the course is to introduce you to painting with acrylics and using mixed media.  By the end of the 4 weeks, I hope that you will have created a small canvas as evidence of your hard work and to showcase the skills you have developed.  I love painting and I hope to inject some of this into our classes.  It should be fun and enjoyable (but if you want some homework I can set some!!).

Lessons will include:

  • Mark making using a variety of techniques
  • Using a range of materials to develop shape, colour, tone and texture
  • Becoming familiar with acrylics using brushes and a range of implements
  • Art historical context – looking at your interests and introducing you to new artists and makers

It is targeted at beginners, but I am happy to adapt the style and delivery if you’ve already done some painting or creative work.  There will be a maximum of 4 people in the class, so you will get individual attention.

Resources: I have a large library of art, design and architecture books, to which we may refer during the course.  These may be available for you to borrow, but there is also the local library on Dane Bank who are very accommodating.

Art History: Manchester has a very good range of galleries, both municipal and private.  Should you wish to take a turn around a few of the galleries, we can arrange something during the course of classes.  I am also able to deliver some formal art historical background if you feel it is something you’d enjoy.

Cost

The cost of the 4-week classes is £60 in total, which includes all materials including paper, paints, canvas and brushes.  This is payable in advance at the start of the course.  There will be a maximum of 4 people in the class, so you will receive individual discussion and attention to improve your technique and develop your skills.

I would appreciate any feedback or comments about the planned classes.  I will do my best to accommodate anything you suggest and offer a full refund policy if you are not happy with the class.  If you have any questions, please email, ring or pop into the studio and speak to me.  I am really looking forward to these classes and to developing your skills and interests in the arts field.
