Starting: 11th January 12-3pm – every Tuesday for 5 weeks.
Following enquiries from local people, I have set dates for an Art Class at my studio on Dane Bank in Denton. They will run every Tuesday for 5 weeks initially: January 11th, 18th, 25th & February 2nd, 8th.
COST:
First Week Free
Weeks 2, 3, 4 & 5: £40 total: I will provide tea, coffee and cake (most important) and all materials – including a canvas to work on and take home at the end of the run of classes.
The aim of the course is to introduce you to painting with acrylics and using mixed media. By the end of the 5 weeks, I hope that you will have created a small canvas as evidence of your hard work and to showcase the skills you have developed. I love painting and I hope to inject some of this into our classes. It should be fun and enjoyable (but if you want some homework I can set some!!).
Lessons will include:
- Mark making using a variety of techniques
- Using a range of materials to develop shape, colour, tone and texture
- Becoming familiar with acrylics using brushes and a range of implements
- Art historical context – looking at your interests and introducing you to new artists and makers
The classes will last for 3 hours, to give us time to get into it and to have a break of 30 mins if needed. It is targeted at beginners, but I am happy to adapt the style and delivery if you’ve already done some painting or creative work. There will be a maximum of 5 people in the class, so you will get individual attention.
Resources: I have a large library of art, design and architecture books, to which we may refer during the course. These may be available for you to borrow, but there is also the local library on Dane Bank who are very accommodating.
Art History: Manchester has a very good range of galleries, both municipal and private. Should you wish to take a turn around a few of the galleries, we can arrange something during the course of classes. I am also able to deliver some formal art historical background if you feel it is something you’d enjoy.
And afterwards…
This is a starter class and I have set it up as a series for now. However, after this has finished, I will consider a roll on roll off class, where you can dip in and out as you like, perhaps with a different focus every week, so you can pick the subject/focus you like or have a specific interest in! In the future I would love to help you hold an exhibition of your work at a local venue.
I would appreciate any feedback or comments about the planned classes. I will do my best to accommodate anything you suggest and offer a full refund policy if you are not happy with the class. If you have any questions, please email, ring or pop into the studio and speak to me. I am really looking forward to these classes and to developing your skills and interests in the arts field.

Hi,
Sounds great. Will be good to have you on board. I’m considering changing the time of the class to evening – 6-8pm to accommodate a few other people who have expressed an interest – would this suit you or is daytime better? I am also going to push the start date back by one week – starting on 18th Jan instead. You can give me a call or leave me your number and I can call you to take details to sign up.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Emily
