Technical studies involve the development of structural models of current buildings to demonstrate the construction methods. The example given is from the Kunsthaus Bregenz – an art gallery in Austria, which sits alongside Lake Constance. The model shows the inner structural walls supporting the floor slabs with upturned walls. The enclosure system consists of a penetrable skin, which acts as a climate modifier, set upon a steel bracing frame. Light is allowed to penetrate the gallery spaces through a gap between the tray walls on each level. The glazed ceiling allows refracted, attenuated light to flood the gallery in different ways throughout the course of a day.
