Inspire Levenshulme Craft Fair

Well today saw the first Craft Fir at Inspire Levenshulme, Levenhulme’s amazing new community space.  In their own words:

“Levenshulme Inspire’s mission is to provide a beautiful, thriving and well-loved centre owned by the people of Levenshulme; a place which offers people a place to meet, to learn, to work and to have fun.”

We had a great day, with lots of footfall, great feedback from passing trade and…. another Fair planned for 18th December.

Here are some pics to give you an idea of the space and what went on today.  If you’re a crafter and are interested, please contact Sean Piatt at Inspire on 0161 850 5717.  You can find out more about the project, which is truly inspirational at:  Lev-Inspire.org.uk

Well… Christmas is drawing nearer and so is the Christmas Craft Fair – 11th Dec at Nip & Tipple on Upper Chorlton Rd, Whalley Range.  Just round the corner from Chorlton Baths, this venue is perfect for wandering round the stalls of local crafters, with a glass of mulled wine in hand, warm and dry.

All stalls are now taken, but if you’re a crafter or artist and are interested in having a stall at future fairs, please drop me a line.  I would love to hear from you.

If you want any further information about having a stall or coming to the fair, please email me at hello@emilypitts.com

CING 2nd Birthday Party & New Project Launch

by Emily Pitts on October 13, 2010

in Uncategorized

Monday saw the launch of CING‘s new Project with Future Everything, alongside a marketplace of fabulous creative work from Manchester’s finest creative individuals and businesses.

The event was hugely attended and I had a great time, meeting new people and sharing ideas for projects and works.  Hive, on Lever Street was  a spacious, open and architecturally interesting venue, with tactile fair-faced concrete surrounded by elegant windows that frame the cityscape perfectly.  My tactile artworks seemed quite at home within the Creative Marketplace in the minimal environment of the Studio.  The event brought together creative industry support networks and creative businesses in an maelstrom of artistic, digital and creative display, which facilitated a fantastic feel-good factor and promoted Manchester’s Creative Industries brilliantly.

If you haven’t visited the Hive yet, you should – hidden away and adjacent to the 4th floor studio is a stunning terrace that offers a totally new view of Manchester.  It’s a great hidden place in Manchester!

The official review is here.

Art Classes Denton / Levenshulme

by Emily Pitts on October 8, 2010

in Uncategorized

Thank you to the Tameside Advertiser for their great review in this week’s paper.  From this I’ve had loads studio visits and a few requests for art classes, amongst other things.  I’m keen to know if this is something that you would like.  Suggestions for a venue are:  Dane Bank (Denton) community Centre, My Studio here in Denton or POD in Levenshulme.  The idea is to hold a class with a relaxed atmosphere where we can come together and share thoughts, with more experienced artists and painters supporting beginners or less experienced people.

Materials and Refreshments

I will provide the materials required and there will be a small fee of around £3 per session (2hrs?) to cover costs.  I do like to bake, so I will try to make sure we’ve got something nice to eat after or during the ‘class’ as part of the session charge.

Please email me or drop into the studio if you feel this is something you’d like to take part in.  I’d be really interested in finding out who you are, what your interests are and when you would like a class – evenings or daytimes, or a mixture of both!

Time: 6-9pm

Venue:   POD: Post Office Deli, Albert Rd, Levenshulme Manchester

Join me, along with Karen and Terry, to take a tour around the artworks, in this beautifully restored Post Office, which now serves as a fabulous Deli Cafe offering fresh local meats, cheeses and food in the cafe and to take home with you.  It really is a great venue, which will host a great opening event – all co-inciding with the start of the Levenshulme Festival.  Come along to enjoy the atmosphere and socialise in Levenhulme’s best meeting place.  Art will be for sale at the event and I will be taking commissions – it’s a good chance to meet the artist and ask any burgeoning questions!!

I really look forward to meeting you there.

Further information: call 07870 360213.

Show Runs from 22-31 Oct 2010 – Don’t miss it!

This new idea – A beautiful artwork wrapped and encased in a luxury box, all ready for giving – will be here very soon.  I’m just adding the finishing touches to designs, but here’s an idea of how it might look…

Watch this space.

  • Acrylic on box canvas
  • 61cm x 30.5cm

This new artwork developed from previous work entitled ‘I just love you’.  The work, on a smaller scale than the previous work, uses a dark red/ pink as the base colour, with rainbow colours dispersed throughout the painting, giving a nod to sexual diversity.  Originally inspired by Derek Jarman’s work at Manchester City Art Gallery, this uses text as a central link between the viewer and the work.

The work discretely deals with the conflict between marriage and civil partnerships, with reference to marriage through use of the words ‘I do’ carved into the rainbow coloured canvas.  For non-heterosexual people, marriage is not an option – ‘I do’ doesn’t exist in the same way, but rather sets the LGBT community apart from heterosexuals.  Many see this as an unacceptable and unequal status, which must be changed.
